This EP very much displays the next phase of life for me. I moved out of my home country to live with my best friend and do music together, and tried my hand at being an adult in a strange country. The frustrations that came along with trying to figure out a way to build myself a stable life came out in both Castles and Healing 101. People around you will tell you a million things to do to get better, and when none of that ends up working like you wanted, it’s rough. It’s what kick-started the writing process this
time around, as music is a good way to get it out of my system. Custom Nightmare is somewhat of an outlier on the EP, and came to be on a night after a particularly frustrating date. I was so fed up with the men I ran across that I finished writing this song on the subway ride home. I felt like I can’t be the only one tired of the dating scenes, and I want to write a song that reflects the struggle for all of us.
